8 places on my wanderlust wishlist

Wanderlust wishlist - 8 places I want to visit

It might surprise you to learn that if I suddenly came into a lot of money, the first thing I would do would not be build a huge library; the first thing I would do is travel.

I know, I know, I’ve just come back to Stockholm. When I’m not somewhere else in the world, I live in a constant state of wanderlust, and feel like I’ve left parts of my heart scattered across the globe. (That sounds so terribly emo.)

Though I’d love to go back to all of those places, there are places on my bucket list that I am desperate to visit.

San Fransisco

Ideally, I would love to visit San Francisco as part of a road trip. It would start in Las Vegas, because I just have to see what that place is like in person, and go via the Grand Canyon and all the beautiful parks along the way, like Yosemite, and then stop in San Francisco.

Once I hit SF, I’d give Cat from Oddly Lovely a bell and beg her to show me around, (and let me stroke her adorable cat and dog) in exchange for food.

Norway

I can’t recall a time where I didn’t want to go and see the Northern Lights. I don’t know when I first heard about them, or saw them, but for as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to see them with my own eyes.

When I was about four years old, I remember seeing it in England. It was nowhere near as clear as it would be in Scandinavia, but I remember the green dancing across the sky and being mesmerised by it.

I’m hoping to go to Norway next year and spend a few days in Oslo before taking a train to Bergen so I can explore some fjords. The train journey from Olso to Bergen is several hours long and it’s supposed to be one of those most beautiful train trips in the world.

Canada

This is another country that I’ve just always wanted to visit. I think my obsession with Canada began when I first heard Avril Lavigne when I was 10 years old. Once I saw how beautiful Canada was, that was it, it was one my wanderlust list.

I would love to do a road trip from the east to the west, and really take my time, and enjoy the scenery. I’d love to go on one of those little tours where you try to spot bears.

If you really want to go to Canada for the beautiful scenery and you live in the UK / Europe and are put off by the flight prices, I highly recommend paying a visit to Scotland and going to the highlands, because it’s so similar. When I went to Scotland earlier this year, there were so many places that looked like you could have been in Canada somewhere.

My urge to go to Canada isn’t as strong as it was after visiting the highlands, but I still want to go. Darn flights being so expensive.

Italy

Ok, so I have been to Italy but I didn’t do any sightseeing. This is another country that I’d love to travel around, I don’t think I’d like to drive there though!

I’d like to explore the lakes in the north, visit Milan, Rome, Tuscany, and the beautiful Amalfi Coast.

Grand Canyon

I’m not sure I know anyone who doesn’t want to go to the Grand Canyon. It’s so breathtaking and awe-inspiring. I imagine it’s hard to stand there and look at it without feeling ridiculously small and insignificant in comparison to nature.

While I was visiting the Grand Canyon, I’d have to pop into Las Vegas also; I just want to see it out of curiosity.

Iceland

My Mum and I are kinda geology nuts, and we’d both love to go to Iceland to explore volcanoes and hot springs. It’s not that far away, and flights aren’t that expensive from the UK, but hotels sure are.

If I had an unlimited budget, I think I’d do a tour of Iceland, since most of the things I’d want to see aren’t in Rekyavik.

Germany

I would love to do a roadtrip around Germany. I’d visit the cities, go to the Black Forest, and spend a long, long time in Bavaria, marvelling at Castle Neuschwanstein.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter & Disneyland Florida

Yep. I don’t know much about Florida at all, apart from:

  • It has Harry Potter World
  • It has Disneyland
  • Horatio Caine spends his days strutting around Miami, putting his sunglasses on while making cheeky one-liners

While the UK has got the original, Warner Bros Harry Potter studio tour, have you seen Harry Potter World? I mean, wow.

I don’t really need to say anymore about Disneyland, do I?

My wanderlust list could go on forever, but those are the ones that are right at the top of my list and are desperate to burn a hole in my pocket.

San Fran is absolutely amazing – you need to go! I wish I could have driven to SF from Vegas so I could have seen Yosemite and Yellowstone. Next time it will happen!

    • It would be such a cool road trip. I remember researching it last year, and I found a website about Yosemite and Yellowstone, which said “Don’t put your hands or feet in places you cannot see them as there make be bears or snakes”. It always made me laugh. In my head I picture a cartoon where someone randomly puts there hand in a bush and a bear jumps out and says “BOO!” Very childish, but I find it very funny.

  • Aww wow you have some fab places on your list. I really want to go to SF too, it looks incredible. My next main place I want to go to is Paris.

    • Paris is wonderful. There’s so much to do and see. When we went, we walked everywhere because my sister and I both really didn’t like the metro, and I’m so glad, because we’d have missed seeing so many cool buildings if we’d caught the metro everywhere.

Okay, I gotta tell you, The Wizarding World is just as amazing as it appears and I really hope you get the chance to visit! It’s expensive but so immersive and detailed, it feels like you are right there in Diagon Alley! xxx

    • Oh yeah, I bet it’s pricey, but it sounds like it’s worth it. I really like the idea that you can go into some of the shops.

  • Oh Italy would be top of my list. The cities and lakes would blow my mind. I’d go anywhere where there were castles too, obv.

If I’m honest though, I would go for the huge library first. You’d be welcome to visit me after your travels!

    • I saw some of the lakes when I flew over and it looks absolutely gorgeous. I spent about an hour at one of them, but the weather was dull and kinda ruined it. I’d love to go back and spend a few days there.

I assume you’d have a whole section on books about castles too?

  • I’d love to travel over to the Grand Canyon, looks an incredible place. Washington DC is my biggie at the moment and actually our next big planned road trip, other than that I’m pretty easy going!

    • Oooh, that sounds like a lot of fun. I think it’s awesome that in the US you can road trip all the way across the country and see so many different kinds of scenery and places. I wish I could do a road trip across the US.

  • I am going to Iceland in October and I cannot wait. San Fran, Canada and Norway are all on my top list of places to visit along with Japan and Berlin. Strangely the Grand Canyon isn’t in my top list of places to see, don’t get me wrong I’m sure it’d be amazing but there’s so many other places on my list!

    • Are you? Lucky you! I hope you have a wonderful time.

Ooh yes, Japan would be beautiful also. I had a dream that I went to Japan to see cherry blossom. Nothing else, just a tree. Weird.

      • Aha sounds similar to my dreams. I keep dreaming I’m photographing the Northern Lights in Iceland but am surrounded by wolves. What does this mean? Probably nothing.

        • That sounds amazing, as long as wolves are being friendly and photogenic.

  • Wow, San Francisco, Norway and Iceland are actually in my top 10 too! I’m dreaming of visiting California and going on a road trip around America. However we hope our next destination will either be Norway or Iceland (more affordable for now!). I’ve been to Canada twice and there’s still a lot I have yet to see there too.

Also, why don’t we have a Harry Potter World here? So unfair!

    • *Internet high five* Norway and Iceland seem to be really popular choices. The great thing is they’re not that far from us either.

Exactly! Harry Potter was created here, why don’t we have one? I hear they’re opening another one in LA.

  • Okay, I don’t want to be “that person” but Florida has Disney World, not Disneyland 😀 Disneyland is in California and are totally different. 🙂 you can also add another bullet point and put that I live in Florida hehe I hope you get to visit this place one day. It’s a pretty awesome state! Hot as hell in the summer, but it’s really nice during the spring time. 😉

    • Ohhh and the WWOHP is awesome! I’ve only been once (shame on me!) but the one time that I went I had a great time. I can’t wait to go back!

      • Haha, I couldn’t remember which one it was. Is there actually a difference? Or is it just the name?

If I come to Florida, I’m definitely going to ask you to show me about, in exchange for food 😀 Is it true that you have to deal with gators sitting in the road? My friends Mum said they have friends who live in Florida somewhere, and she told her that she was once caught in a traffic jam because a gator decided to sit in the road and they had to wait for animal control. I was never entirely sure if it was true.

        • There is a big difference! Disneyland is so much smaller. Disneyland is only 160 acres (I think) and Disney World is 25,000… according to google. I believe it. They have 4 parks, 2 water parks, downtown Disney, some sports complex thing plus a lot of empty land for future attractions/parks. It’s insane. I have yet to see all of Disney World!

I have never seen a gator on the road but I hear about it on the news a lot. They are in all of the lakes around here though. Sometimes I’ll see them at the parks. They don’t do anything, really. They just kind of lay there. I avoid them of course – I don’t want to piss one off lol

          • I never knew that. Sounds like you could spend days exploring Disney Word.

Yeah, I bet there are better things to do than annoy a gator.

  • Yes! I want to visit all of these places too! The top place I want to visit is London! I also want to visit Italy, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, France, and pretty much everywhere!

    • Oh yeah, you could have a whole list just for places in France to go. It’s easy to forget how huge the country is and how different the scenery is in different places.

  • danniella josephine

Japan, Germany, Amsterdam, New York are my main places! I wish I could go, I have no travel buddies 🙁

      Ooh, I forgot Iceland!

      • I really want to go Iceland. I’d like to do a road trip around Iceland. We could be travel buddies!
